About the Artist:

Adventurous and versatile, printmaker Delia Witherill Jurek addresses landscapes of environment, politics and emotional life in her work.

The artist, a resident of Center City since 1976, maintains a studio behind her historic home, a hundred year old former retail structure that was moved down the street from its original site near the current courthouse. She works on a press that was formerly owned by noted printmaker and University of Minnesota professor Malcolm Myers.

Originally a ceramic artist who taught pottery at nearby Hazelden, Delia gravitated to printmaking upon returning to the U of M to finish her degree after many years away. While making prints offered a repetitive practice and the possibility of multiples similar to pottery making, Delia was intrigued by a distinct change in media. Her interest was fueled by the opportunity to study in Italy at the International School of Graphics in 2000. She pre-sold the prints she would make there to fund the trip and returned as a visiting artist in 2003.

Many of Delia’s prints reflect the mood and rituals of central Minnesota’s outdoor life: fishing, broomball, night driving. Delia favors the monotype form, singular prints or very small series’ of prints with slight differences. She has exhibited her work at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis and is represented by Northern Prints Gallery, Duluth.

When his mother admired a rustic wooden wine rack, Center City firefighter – and handy guy – Travis Greene went out to his shop to construct the perfect thing from re-purposed commercial pallets. His wife Laura began to request shelving pieces and spice racks for their home and as gifts for lucky friends. Since opening an etsy shop, Wood Pallet Treasures, earlier this year, Travis and Laura have been busy filling orders for these hardworking, handcrafted storage forms.

Join us at Al’s Glass Showroom for this perfect opportunity to see these 100% reclaimed wood designs in action and to custom order a piece to meet your needs directly from the maker. Travis will be on hand to answer questions about his process and to discuss measurements and finishes.
